Wow, the weeks are going by quickly.
I started cutting selects this week, and even though it felt good to start reviewing and narrowing down my footage, it still felt a little too permanent, like I was already discarding things, without a clear vision of what exactly I am looking for.
I managed to meet with Patricia this week, which was very useful. She recommend I watch two films, The Tailenders and Darwins Nightmare. She also sent me some PDF readings regarding indigenous representation.
I watched Darwins Nightmear last night, what an incredible film! I really enjoyed the non-linear structure and the way the filmmaker uses the fish as a thread that stings together many larger and more complex issues.
I am looking forward to getting some formal instruction about cutting scenes on Wednesday because I am noticing that I don't really seem to have clear beginnings and endings to each of my science, unfortunately.
Overall, I am still a bit concerned about how my footage is going to fit together, but I am trying to no push that too much and just allow myself time to sit with my footage without jumping to any conclusions as of yet.
