Blog week 7-Michelle

Since last Wednesday when Irene mentioned that we were going to need to turn in a structure summary on Friday, I have been putting a lot of time into questioning how my story should be laid out.
I made Sticky notes with all my scenes on them and have been moving them around on my cork board, to try and see where I think a order to place scenes and key moments. And basically, I have no idea. I feel like this is a hard decision for me to make right now, because I am still a bit indecisive in regards to what exactly I want the focus of the film to be.
Do I want to focus on Fair Trade?  Or do I want it to be an expose on Sam and the life of the Ngobe people?  Or do I want to tell the Supply Chain Story? I think I could potentially represent all of these things, but I think it may be better if I choose one thing to focus on, considering I only have 20 minutes.
I think after I cut all of my scenes, It would be helpful for me to go back and create paper scripts that I could sit with and review for awhile without being in from of FCP.
So, all of that being said, If I had to start putting together my structure today, I think I would like to start with and an animated intro using Familiar Fair Trade choclate labels, then get in to Sam’s story via his photo on one of the labels.
From there, I think each of the 7 Processes scenes should be split up by a “family/community scene that has nothing to do with chocolate.

I do think the climax of the story comes when Sam and Juana go to sell their beans at the co-op and they end up getting half of what they they thought they were going to get, while the audience is questioning how that is a “Fair Trade.”

So, I will likely be questioning this idea of structure until Picture lock in April, but I guess I just need to start somewhere by putting it all together and see how it looks. Kind of scary
