Rana - Joyriding through my footage!

.... That's what it felt like going through and transcoding my footage. I found so many glitches and had some technical issues, but I ultimately figured it all out. I've created a mess by not carefully keeping track of what I was changing about my organization, my 2 LaCie's were not identitcal as they should be, so I went through a whole ordeal sorting out all the imbalances. As tedious and frustrating as it is, "we're getting somewhere," and it helps me in starting to think about what I actually have and how I can work with it. But the following ratios are rough and not exact. Even if I gather more footage of and from Rakan, it won't cause more than a 5-10% change on the overall footage.

20% Subject (Rakan) shoots and interviews: approx 5 hrs (more to be collected)

20% Expert interviews: approx 5 hrs (half of which will need to be reshot)

60% Riyadh city, most of which is from inside the car.
Outside: capturing daily life, static shots of roads, alleyways, people, residential/commercial areas, cityscape, buildings, minarets, workers, advertisements, stores, etc. Little/slow camera movements and panning.
Inside: (1) facing the road or (2) facing the side (from the passenger's seat window.)

The majority of my footage of the city is shot from the car. So the film will tell the story from there mainly. It is not only a transportation tool, it's also the main means of mobility in the public space. Riyadh will be seen from this perspective, but in different ways. So as I think about the "type," I'm thinking it's a film about a city shot from a vehicle and a number of different static shots of it taken on the street.

There is also additional footage:
-Rakan's own footage of joyriding
-other/found footage

To see Riyadh from the car lens is also a way of getting familiar with the urban environment of the joyriders.

I'm also thinking about speed of the movement. I may want to slow/speed them up depending on the part of the story and the aesthetic.

In terms of organization, I have all my footage organized according to (1) date, then (2) camera. In my Master Field Log, however, I include much more details. What I plan to do next is start organizing a list of places or scenes, as initiated on my scene list. I will start to go through all the footage of the different scenes or categories, to start eliminating and thinking about the best shots. Meanwhile I will finish transcribing all the interviews and read through them a few times.

I'm already thinking about the animations I want to create for the film, so I am on the search for maps of Riyadh. I plan on getting all my assets prepared during this quarter, and if possible get started on storyboarding the animation.

For our Literature class, I will propose to write a character sketch and script for the film. I'm also thinking about sound, in terms of VO, music, natsound, etc. and just thinking about what the film will sound like.

It's a little overwhelming to think about all these simultaneously, but everything is connected, so this sort of chaos, I'll presume is fine and will pass.

The following is a screenshot of my initial scene list, which I will work on expanding over the next week:
