This has been a particularly difficult quarter for me, in just my personal life. My attention has been distracted at various times and, where I thought I was ahead at the beginning of the quarter, I now feel behind.
The rough cut I have uploaded is very, very rough. However, the process has been good because I can tell that I am narrowing in on the vision of the film. The piece right now as it stands, is two films. One film is more expert/character driven - with Anthony narrating his experiences and experts providing credibility to his words. The other film is more essay-like, giving a glimpse into life in the delta, in conjunction with Anthony's experiences in the prison within the town they all reside.
I am very much still in the process of figuring out what film I want to make, but I know I'll get there after I have created this monster and then can decide what is speaking loudest to me.
This cut is very "talkie" and will be working on my cut aways and observation footage over the break. I will be working on this continuously over the winter so that next quarter I will have a much sharper film and a more defined vision. I just need to put this quarter behind me right now.
Thinking of changing the title to "Free Anthony: Accounts from a Revolutionary Slave."
